7 of the World’s Most Breathtakingly Photogenic Cities

From tasting foreign fare to soaking up the sights and expanding your cultural horizons, the seduction of a new and exciting destination is irresistible. For most, however, the desire to jet set springs from something a little more carnal: we just want to make our friends jealous. Oh, come on, we know you’re guilty. Now pack your bags, your digital camera, and your eye for the aesthetic. It’s time to go on an Instagramming spree! Here, in no particular order, are 7 of the world’s most photogenic cities that are drop-dead beautiful, even with #NoFilter.

1. Venice, Italy

Trigger the jealousy of a bitter ex by posting a photo of you sailing through the unbelievably aesthetic Venice canal while staring over the horizon and mulling over the possibilities of your newfound single life! Hailed by lovers as the city of romance, it’s the gorgeous labyrinth of cobblestone streets, sleepy canals, and Venetian Gothic architecture that make this city a bucket-list destination for shutterbugs. After snapping obligatory photos of the sights, pepper your newsfeed with a deluge of Italian fare. Are you on a date with a dreamy Italiano? Your ex will never know.

2. Santorini, Greece

Here’s the deal, this island is so photogenic you’ll have no time to put your camera down. You’ll be hard-pressed to find anything ugly on this picture-perfect paradise, but it’s the white cliffside buildings and blue domes that are most iconic. Find your way through stone streets and mosey alongside the local donkeys, but don’t you ever, ever forget to snap a photo of the sun as it sets over the vast expanse of the Aegean sea. It’s pure eye-candy.

3. Kyoto, Japan

Japan’s cultural capital is on the list and will not go down without a fight. A glorious combination of unparalleled nature, classical Buddhist temples, traditional wooden houses, and ornate Shinto shrines make one of Japan’s largest cities a bucket-list destination for avid photographers. Plan a visit in spring and snap an obligatory cherry blossom pic. Is it time for a new profile photo?

4. Bruges, Belgium

Bruges is so straight out of a fairytale book that it’s hard not to feel sort of magical when you’re strolling along its cobblestone streets. Head to Markt Square and snap a photo of the multi-colored gingerbread house-like buildings, wander along the canals and snap a foodie pic with a warm Belgian waffle (a must), or climb the whole 366 steps to the top of the Bruges belfry tower and capture the marvelous city skyline. There’s sure to be enchantment anywhere you go.

5. Paris, France

10 bucks says you already know the City of Lights is making this list. The over-photographed Eiffel Tower is Instagram’s most geo-tagged European attraction with over 7.3 million tags (and growing), but apart from the obvious sights to see, don’t forget to snap a selfie on the romantic Pont Alexandre III bridge, the breathtaking Louvre Pyramid, and the gorgeous skyline view from the 6th floor of the Pompidou Centre.

6. New York, USA

Ahh, the Big Apple — an obvious inclusion to the world’s most photogenic cities and a must-visit for anyone aiming for Instagram-worthy photos. Alicia Keys couldn’t have said it better: with the iconic Statue of liberty and the world famous Empire State Building, it really is a concrete jungle where dreams are made of! Grace your social feeds with a shot of the Grand Central Terminal, the iconic Manhattan Bridge, and the always-bustling-and-never-asleep Times Square. One thing’s for sure: you’ll never run out of photos to wow your followers

7. Lucerne, Switzerland

There’s breathtakingly beautiful, and then there’s Lucerne, Switzerland. If you haven’t been to this paradise, then you haven’t fully made the most of the eyes God gave you. Marvel at the city’s medieval architecture, take photos of the iconic Chapel Bridge and explore the 20-million-year-old Glacier Garden.
